Carnival

Carnival!!! Carnaval is a festival that they have here that I still don´t quite understand. Everyone goes and listens to the different choirs throughout the city that are either singing on street corners or standing on platforms that are beinging pulled by giant tractors. Also I have seen sooo many drunk people! The day time was cute to see the little kids dressed up but at night it´s not as cute to see a drunk superman slouched on the ground.  But in other events this week was pretty good! We had the opportunity to teach english to one of the members here because she had an english test the next day. I never realized how strange english was until I tried to teach it! Jolin! Other than that nothing too exciting! We had some great lessons with some great people this week and I´m excited that I still have plenty of time left here in Spain! I love all of you so much! Another Great Couple

Dearest Family and friends,

 

Last week Hermana Ashby and I decided to test out our bravery and try to get our hair cut at one of the many peluquerias that line the streets of Spain. In the best spainish I could muster I explained what I wanted and she confirmed what I said "dos dedos" Two fingers width worth of hair and I watched her as she cut of about 5 or 6 inches worth so goodbye hair! But it´s ok I have a while to grow it out! After that experince we went exploring around Cadiz and found a nice garden which contained the most green that I had seen in a really long time! I almost felt like I was back in Florida! This week was a bit slow in terms of citas but we did find a another great couple that are super intrested and we plan to visit again this week! The mission really is never steady sometimes you´ll have 20 citas a week and sometimes you´ll have 10 but the important thing is to know that as long as you´re working as hard as you can things are going to work out and you can´t help but loving every second of it! I´m also going to take a second and talk about how amazing the members of Cádiz are! They are always so willing to come to lessons and feed us and just are so kind. I´ve had so much cola coa(stuff simialr to nestle quick) here it´s ridiculous!  I hope that everyone is doing well! I miss you all!

Hello and welcome to what was a very crazy week.

This week started out with a nice chill P-day where we all hung out in the capilla and played ping pong! Everyone here... well all the missionaries here are obsessed with ping pong. By the end of the day Hermana Ashby was not feeling very well so we stopped by a pharmacy and bought a thermometer and found out that she had a whopping temperature of 102! So, we stayed in piso so she could rest and then the next day like a champ Hermana Ashby and I headed back to work! Then on Wednesday we Diamonte! Diamonte is something that our mission did a while a go and decided to bring back! It´s where we spend all day contacting in the street That´s right all day! It was great and exhausting! We talked to some many people and had some awesome conversations with people! One of the elders said that he did the math and that we walked about 27 miles that day! Then Thursday and Friday I headed to Malaga to finish paper work and I am now an official resident of Spain! It was great because we got to send the night in the mission home which is an actually house which is super rare in Spain! So all in all a crazy week in my eyes but maybe not so great for everyone back home! I hope that everyone is doing great and has a fantastic week!

3 Months Already!

Three months! That´s right I have been out for three months! Time really does just fly by and it´s great and terrifying! I love being a missionary during good times and the rough times! I have two weeks of information so get ready! Last week we were visted by the Guffeys! The Guffeys are a couple that are serving mission on the military base in Rota and decided to treat us to lunch because they were in our area! We went to eat some pizza and talk about normal Anerican things in english! What a treat! Also transfers where last week and..... Im staying in Cadiz with Hermana Ashby! Thank goodness because I still think that I would be completely lost trying to navigate the streets of Spain with out here and she´s just a great companion in general so it´s a win win! We did have some changes though because we were the only companionship that stayed the same in our zone! One of the Elders in our district went home which was really sad because you realize oh no time is passing by so quickly and even though you miss home you also know that youre going to miss Spain! More exciting news we set two baptismal fechas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man the Lord really blessed to find two super prepared people! We found Maria street contacting about a month ago  and she told us that she was intrested but didnt have time so we took her number and decided to try her in the future. Fast forward a couple of weeks we call and her husband answers the phone and says that his wife wouldnt talk to Mormons and he goes to talk to her we wait holding our breathe thinking that we had gotten her in trouble but he comes back and says that actually he was interested too and that we could come by whenever. We went over the next week and man they were great they were really information hungry and we had to say woah slow down we cant tell you evrything in one lesson!  It makes you realize that the mission is a time for you to grow and if your doing everything that you´re are supposed to that he WILL bless you. I can´t say it enough but the mission is one of the greatest decisions ive ever made and I love seeing the difference the gospel makes in peoples lives! Next exciting event, I got to go to Gilbrator last week! It was amazing! Gilbraltor is a British territory where you can see Africa, listen to British accents and see monkeys! I don´t know about you but I think that´s pretty cool! Last but not least I got to see my friend Leni Sinke who is studying in Sevilla! It was great to see a familar face and catch up on what´s going on back home!

Blood Sausage

Hola everyone in the U.S.A!

So, this last P-day we got to go paintballing!! I know pretty awesome! It was great and slightly painful but worth it for sure! I had Elder Jack on my team who is kind of a pro paintballer so we won basically everytime while he took out everyone and the rest of us would manage to shoot maybe one person with our combined efforts! The lady who owned the place said that we could play for free on our birthdays too bad my birthday wont be for another year! So, we managed to get home right on time and try to teach people during three kings day but it worked out because we went to see one of the less actives in the Ward. We knocked on her door and her husband answered the door and said that she was out shopping and he did'nt think she would  be back for a while but as we turned around to go the elevator opened and there she was! She was pretty happy to see us and had a great lesson with her. This week Hermana Ashby and I finally invested in a small heater because our land lord told us we couldnt use our normal heater because it was driipping wáter on our neighbors clothes below... because people dry there clothes outside. So we figured that our tiny heater wouldnt bother anyone and we wouldnt have to freeze in our piso. Wednesday we went to our weekly lunch with one of the members and I had the pleasure of trying Morcilla. Morcilla is also know as blood sausage which is a sausage made of pig blood mmmmm tasty! I´ve definetly been blessed to find that everything I try tastes pretty good even though the thought that I ate a sausage made out of blood does sound a little sketchy! Other cool things from this week my companion hit her one year mark! whooh! In honor of this we decided to go get a large pizza from the best pizza place in the world! This past Sunday the Elders brought investigators that didnt speak spanish and so we all took turns translating since Elder Richardson and I had to give a talk. Man translating is exhausting! I only did it for a couple of minutes when Hermana Ashby was getting super tired and it really requires you to use everything. This week has been great! As always Hermana Ashby and I are trying our best to teach the people of Spain and I´m loving every momento of it. I love that I´m here and that I have this amazing opportunity to grow and help with the obra misional!

Happy New Year

Blog thing:

 Happy New Year everyone!!! This is my first email of 2015 and it´s crazy to think that i´ve already been out here for two months! This whole year is going to be fantastic and just filled with miracles for me and hopefully for all of you back home! So, Hermana Ashby and I started that year off right by going to a members house to tomar los uvas(eat the grapes). Here in Spain it´s tradition that for each of the last 12 seconds of the new year you eat a grape so that you´ll have a good year and if you mess up well... sorry better luck next year but don´t worry we ate them like pros. Speaking of being a pro i´ve finally got the hang of tearing off the heads of gambas(huge shrimp) because the eat them here a ton for the holidays and if you dont do it right you have to scoop out the brain part whooh! This week we had the pleasure of our fuse blowing in our piso(apartment) and apparently it blew right as we left because when we came back we about died when we opened our fridge. Talk about the smell of death it was terrible because we had left overs that members had given us sitting in there! I realized that I have really talked about the ward here in Cadiz! Here in Cádiz there is one ward of about 100 people and they are all great! We go over to members houses about twice a week and they are constantly giving gifts and candy and just being so sweet and helpful. I am very grateful that no one has made fun of my spanish yet though after my talk that I have to give in church on Sunday that might change. Everyone is just really encouraging and at least pretends to know what i´m saying to them but I  feel like my spanish if definetly improving. This week in general has been really great Hermana Ashby and I have been loving the warm weather because evryone on the street has been pretty receptive this week and don´t look as frightened when we smile at them!
